National Arts and Humanities Month

October is National Arts and Humanities Month. At PBL, at least in the music department, students are busily practicing the art of music–whether preparing for competitions, learning songs and dance moves for the upcoming musical, or training daily to improve their voices and singing skills. It is easy to get so caught up in the energy of preparations that we lose sight of why we do any of it.

Music is such a gift. It has the power to create or amplify the feelings of our hearts, can inspire creativity in the mind, and can bring joy to all of us when we share it together. At least once during the month of October, stop and be thankful for the gift of music and for its role in the continuing growth and betterment of the world we live in.

Just a bit of fun

I stumbled upon a kind of scary video online today, and I thought if anybody would appreciate it, it would be my students! (Oh, and before anybody asks, no we are not singing this!)

These videos were taken during this year’s IMEA All-State Conference. Cantus is a wonderful men’s choral ensemble–their voices are amazing! Though they are all men, their overall choral style is definitely worth imitating by both women and men.  Listen particularly closely to their warm vowels…
